Nachura completes 15-member high tribunal

SOLICITOR GENERAL ANTONIO Eduardo B. Nachura was sworn in by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as Supreme Court Associate Justice on February 7 in Malacañang. His appointment completes the 15-member High Tribunal which had a vacancy last year following the appointment of then Senior Associate Justice Reynato S. Puno as Chief Justice.
     Justice Nachura held two posts in the Executive Department prior to his SC appointment. Last year, he was first named by President Arroyo as Chief Presidential Legal Counsel and later as Solicitor General. Justice Nachura also served for two terms in Congress as Representative of Samar’s 2nd District. He was also a prosecutor during the 2001 impeachment trial of deposed President Joseph E. Estrada.
     Justice Nachura was Dean of the Arellano University School of Law from 1992 to 1994.
     Likewise, he served as member of the University of the Philippines Board of Regents.
     Justice Nachura is a graduate of the San Beda College of Law and placed 9th in the 1967 Bar Examinations.
